| Severe Weather Information |
An E.A.S. is a series of beeps that interrupts
programming to inform listeners that there is a warning issued. KKOW uses the
E.A.S. for severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings issued in counties
of the primary listening area. The primary listening area for KKOW includes
Allen, Bourbon, Neosho, Crawford, Labette and Cherokee Counties in Kansas;
Vernon, Barton, Jasper and Newtown Counties in Missouri; and Ottawa County in
Oklahoma.
The E.A.S. simulcasts the warning over all three stations (860
AM KKOW, 96.9 FM KKOW, and 100.7 FM KBZI).
Regular programming will
return after the E.A.S. for severe thunderstorms has been broadcast. Listeners
can expect an update every 10 minutes while the warning is in effect. When a
tornado warning is issued for any of the counties in the primary listening
area, KKOW will simulcast over all three stations with coverage. Listeners can
expect to hear constant updates from the national weather service, progress of
the storm, descriptions of the Doppler radar and reports from by weather
spotters in the field. |
